You that joke about cockroaches being the only survivors of a nuclear holocaust? It's not strictly true. Take-away sauce packets will also survive. They live on forever.
I have a deep suspicion that they breed and multiply in the backs of kitchen drawers or the fridge when left unattended.
But somehow, I can't bear to throw them out! Why? Because apart from the shameful waste of it all, those little packets can occasionally come in handy (especially when reaching for that empty bottle of soy sauce mild-recipe).
So how to keep those handy little packets from taking over your kitchen? Give them a home of course! By corralling them in a handy place, you won't forget about them and have a better chance of actually using them.
I get those small ceramic containers designed to hold sugar packets at restaurants. Look for them at cooking stores, restaurant supply stores or even at the supermarket. They are the perfect size for keeping those little packets organized until you need them. Get a few.
What You’ll Need
- One package of enoki mushrooms
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- One lemon, cut in half
- 4-5 packets of soy sauce (to taste)
- 1 or 2 packet of Sriracha sauce (optional)
How to Prepare The Meal
- Clean and prep the enokis with a quick rinse under a tap and slice off roughly ½” of the bottom.
- Slice again lengthwise to separate them into several long bunches.
- Warm the olive oil in a frying pan for a few seconds.
- Add the enokis and one or two packets of soy sauce.
- Keep turning the enokis over until they start to release some water. Add the rest of the soy-sauce packets.
- After about 3 minutes, squeeze the lemon juice onto it and turn them over some more.
- Add the Sriracha sauce if you want a little kick.
- Serve and eat immediately.
