What Is Linen Water and How Do I Use It?

“Linen Water,” sometimes called “Linen Spray” or “Ironing Water,”  is one of those little domestic luxuries that cost very little but have a lot of impact.

It was popularized in 17th century France when nobles and the upper classes used distilled lavender to their laundry and bed linens to scent them (and probably disguise the fact that they weren't necessarily bathing on the regular).

These days, professional laundry services and switched-on civilians use it to add a little extra boost of fragrance to their laundry, without the creepy industrial chemicals or toxic plastics that come with dryer sheets or "fragrance beads.”  Linen Water is much more subtle and sophisticated. Plus, it's water-based, so a lot healthier for you, your family, and the planet.

WAYS TO USE LINEN WATER:

JUST SPRITZ IT.

The easiest way to use it is to just spritz your laundry with it. Ours doesn’t stain, so feel free to spray it on your favourite white shirt or linen sheets. Just spray and leave it. Done!

DETER MUSTINESS AND MOTHS.

Even if you carefully wash your clothes and linens, clean laundry can get musty smelling when stored for a long time in the back of your closet or drawers. Use Room & Linen Spray on your wool blankets, cashmere sweaters, table linens or anything you've got stashed away to prevent that musty smell and discourage moths from nesting there.

REFRESH UPHOLSTERY, CURTAINS, AND RUGS.

Nobody washes their curtains and rugs once a month. Nobody! But you can eliminate that dusty smell (and scent the whole house) by spritzing your upholstered furniture, curtains, and rugs once a week. Easy.

GOOD BEDFELLOWS.

You change your sheets once a week, but what about your bedspread, decorative cushions, and bedspread? All your bedlinens will benefit from a little daily spritz when you make the bed. It will subtly scent the room and you'll be rewarded with the kind of whisper-light, heavenly scented pillows that will have you looking forward to hitting the hay. Clever boots.

NEW CAR SMELL?

We keep a Room & Linen Spray in the car to spritz the interior every time we get the car washed. It's a world away from those cheap car-wash fragrances and helps to boost our Grapefruit Car Diffuser to keep the car smelling fresh.

CLOTHES REFRESHER.

You love your Garment Groom because it cleans your clothing instead of just scenting it. But if you want to level up that gorgeous scent, spray your clothing with Room & Linen Spray between washings for that just laundered feeling.

IRON WITH IT.

You can use it two ways: Misting Room & Linen spray while you iron will help banish wrinkles while infusing your laundry with a delicious scent. You can also add it right into your iron water reservoir.
